People often ask us "when is the best time to go bareboating?"
There is no one correct answer, but there are 4 great reasons why you should try bareboating in winter!
It’s in the Whitsundays.
Do we need to explain? 74 beautiful islands, most of them national park. A few resorts, some welcome visitors on boats. You can choose between completely unspoilt beaches one day, and a swim up pool bar and cocktails the next. All surrounded by outstanding coral and marine life, with guest appearances from whales, dolphins and turtles. You might even find Nemo, or Dory, while you’re at it.
It’s the tropics.
It never really gets cold up here. Cold is for down south. Up here, the average winter day time temperature is still in the mid 20s, and the water temperature is not far behind! Even in winter you can still swim, snorkel and sunbathe. Don’t forget to pack your sunscreen!
June – September is whale season in the Whitsundays. The whales migrate north for warmer waters in winter. You should take a leaf out of their book and come too! We get a huge migration of humpback whales and some pilot whales too. Every year they come north to give birth to their babies in the warm, protected waters of the Whitsundays. So not only will you see whales hopefully putting on a show, breaching, slapping fins and tails, blowing water in the air, but you might get to see a newborn whale calf as well.
There’s a saying in the Whitsundays – ‘it’s beautiful 9 months of the year, and then there’s summer’. The perfect time to charter a boat is winter for so many reasons. You can sleep snuggled up to your significant other because it’s not too hot. While the days are warm enough for swimming and sunbathing, the nights are deliciously cool and it’s a great time to enjoy a nice red wine (something we don’t often do up here). Winters in the Whitsundays are typically dry (we get summer rain, not winter rain) and there’s no humidity. It’s a great temperature to tackle some of the more challenging bushwalks on the islands too. It’s the perfect season for boating!
So next time someone starts throwing around ideas for where to go on a winter holiday, suggest you go bareboating in the Whitsundays! It’ll be one of the best things you ever do!
